The Korea Times and the Northeast Asian History Foundation invite foreigners as well as Koreans to participate in an English-language essay contest to mark the 100th anniversary of the assassination of the first Japanese Resident-General Hirobumi Ito by independence fighter Ahn Jung-geun (1879-1910), which falls on Oct. 26.
Applicants are required to submit an essay under the theme of ``What Is An Jung-geun's Place in East Asia's History?" in about 900 words by e-mail to
no later than Sept. 30, along with a brief introduction about themselves and a photo.
The contest is co-organized by the Patriot Ahn Jung-geun Memorial Conference in Seoul.
The winners will be announced on Oct. 15 and will be individually informed of the schedule for the awarding ceremony.
The contest is divided into two categories ― Koreans and foreigners ― for a total of 12 winners.
In each division, the Gold Prize winner will receive 1 million won in prize money and a plaque. Two Silver Prize winners will be given 300,000 won and a plaque, while three Bronze Prize winners will receive 200,000 won and a plaque.
