A man was caught for posing as an immigration officer and extorting money from immigrant laborers, police said Monday.
According to the Chilgok County Police Station in North Gyeongsang Province, the 30-year-old man threatened foreign laborers in Korea as if he was an immigration officer and collected about 3.5 million won ($2,700) from about 10 immigrant workers who were overstaying their visas.
The fraudster had a fake identification card and carried handcuffs to intimidate immigrant workers.
Police are further investigating the case to find if there were more victims.
