A 21-year-old man has been charged with attempting to smuggle ``marijuana cookies.''
Changwon District Prosecutors Office said Tuesday that the man, identified only as Park, had been indicted for violation of Drug Laws.
Park, a former student in Boston, the United States, allegedly attempted to bring 60 cookies containing the drug into Korea through international postal services at Incheon International Airport on June 15. The 1,497 grams of cookies were worth 30 million won ($23,000), according to the prosecution.
He asked an American friend to send the cookies in the mail and was to pick up the parcel from postal customs at Incheon, but he was caught after a tip-off.
``We found cannabinoid, one of main substances of marijuana, in the cookies,'' a prosecutor said.
