Changwon City Mayor Park wan-soo will be in Edmonton, Canada, from June 14 to 18 to attend the General Assembly of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI).

Mayor Park will present Changwon's initiatives for bicycle riding as an eco-friendly transportation alternative.

Around 1,000 city representatives from 100 countries will be participating in the meeting where they will discuss eco-friendly solutions for climate change, transportation, energy efficiency and water resources.

In a session entitled "Eco-friendly Transportation Solutions," the mayor will elaborate on the city's policies for improving public transportation systems and facilitating the needs of pedestrians and popularizing bicycle riding.

The policies include creating a public bike-rental program called the "Nubija" project, developing bicycle infrastructure, introducing city regulations for protecting bicycle riders, and also offering monetary incentives.

Aside from attending the ICLEI convention, Mayor Park will also meet with Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mendel and exchange views on collaborating on environment and transportation policies.

Changwon city officials say they will continue to share their leading eco-friendly initiatives such as their bicycle-riding promotion.
