Kim Dong-gil, professor emeritus at Yonsei University, is under fire for his abusive remarks about former President Kim Dae-jung.
The development came Thursday when he said the Nobel Peace prize winner should kill himself because he is responsible for North Korea's mass development of nuclear weapons.
It is the second time the scholar has used a ``slanderous tongue'' against a liberal former president. Just days before Roh Moo-hyun committed suicide, he said that the self-taught lawyer should take his own life over the bribery investigation that tarnished his name.
On the 59th anniversary of the Korean War Thursday, he posted an article that said, ``Kim Dae-jung has spent a huge amount of money only to hug Kim Jong-il and to dismantle the Republic of Korea.''
He continued, ``The dollars were used to help North Korea develop nuclear weapons, which are now threatening our lives, and the only thing Kim should do is to throw himself off from the nearest cliff.''
His remarks triggered an angry response from the public. His Web site was overloaded with angry visitors and had to be shut down.
``That man really needs some discipline,'' Lee Nam-hun, a 28-year-old office worker, said. ``Didn't he learn from Roh' case that you should never tell someone to kill himself?'' he said.
Architect hopeful Yang Sun-hwa, 31, added, ``This man is pathetic. He either thinks this is the only way he could get media attention or he is a sacred figure who can talk about anything in anyway."
