The 32nd general meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be held in Busan next year, the local government and Korea Meteorological Administration officials said Sunday.
They said the nation's largest port city was unanimously selected as the venue for the meeting during the 30th IPCC session, which ran from April 21 to 23 in Antalya, Turkey.
The IPCC, established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), has provided decision-makers and others interested in climate change with an objective source of information.
The meeting is to chart details to publish its fifth assessment report in 2015. The government expects more than 1,000 government delegates, experts, journalists, and civic group activists from 190 countries to participate in the meeting.
``The gathering will not only raise the city's international exposure but also help us draw measures against the borderless crisis,'' the city said.
The 31st session will be held in October in Bali, Indonesia.
