The first Korean school in the Philippines will open in September, according to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Tuesday.
Located in Metro Manila, the ``Korean International School Philippines,'' will recruit 22 teachers and 14 administrators to teach 150 elementary and 75 middle school students, it said.
The Filipino education authorities and the ministry approved the establishment of the school in 2004 and 2005, respectively.
A total of $5.1 million has been spent on construction of the school building, with the Korean government providing half of the cost. Annual tuition stands at $4,500 for elementary and $5,400 for middle school pupils.
Some 100,000 Koreans live in the Philippines.
There are 29 Korean schools in 14 countries around the world with some 11,000 students.
Each has its own policy in the enrolment of students and recruitment of teachers, and teaches Korean in line with the domestic Education Law.
