Seven housewives in Seoul were arrested for engaging in ‘pay-for-sex’ acts after meeting male clients through a phone chatting service, Hankyoreh reported Friday.
Those arrested include a 46-year-old woman, whose last name is Park. Since Dec. 2007, Park and the six women has had sex with men whom they got to know through a telephone chatting service and charged anywhere from 100,000 to 200,000 won for sex.
These housewives range from in their early 30s to 50s, including a wife of a provincial official.
According to the police, their “business hours” are normally from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. when their husbands and children are not home. They then called their male clients and met them in various motels in Goyang city or Paju city in Gyeonggi Province.
The phone chatting service charges 15,000 won for men per hour, but is free for women.
According to the police investigation, these women spent the money on buying cosmetics, shopping and clubbing.
“Most of these women are middle-class housewives. They started this out of curiosity first, but soon got addicted to it after making a good deal of extra money,” a police officer said.
The police believe there are more such cases using the widespread phone chatting service and expanding their investigation.
