Lee Yong-gul, a senior official of the Ministry of Finance and Economy, was named Monday as the ministry's new second vice minister, replacing Bae Kook-hwan, who had moved to the Board of Audit and Inspection.
Born in Busan in 1957, Lee graduated from Kyuggi High School and Seoul National University and has worked in ministry positions, including bureaus of state budget planning, financial and industrial policies and public sector restructuring. He's been in charge of budget planning since the inauguration of the Lee Myung-bak administration a year ago.
He will work with the newly-appointed Strategy and Finance Minister, Yoon Jeung-hyun, and the ministry's first vice minister, Hur Kyung-wook, to form the country's macroeconomic policies, aimed at steering Korea out of the economic recession, Cheong Wa Dae said.
