SK Chairmans Davos Docket Booked for Big Meetings

SK Chairman Chey Tae-won
SK Chairman Chey Tae-won has already been fully booked for high-profile appointments in the World Economic Forum to be held in Davos, Switzerland.

During the Jan. 28 to Feb. 1 gathering of global leaders under the title, ``Shaping the Post-Crisis World,'' Chey is planning to meet some of the better-known field of 2,500 leaders from more than 90 countries including 40 heads of state or leaders of that level.

According to SK officials, Chey is to be accompanied by Kim Shin-bae, vice chairman and CEO of SK C&C and other key executives on his trip to Davos. He left yesterday.

His primary job is to promote Korea and its national brand, they said.

He will participate in the Korea Night to be sponsored by the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), the local business lobby, together with Prime Minister Han Seung-soo.

Chey's docket also includes meetings with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao; Colombian President Alvaro Uribe Velez and other heads of global financial firms and oil-producing countries' officials.

During his meeting with the Colombian president, Chey is expected to emulate the example of his company's cooperation with Peru and delve into ways of jointly developing natural resources.

SK officials said that Chey's meetings with top officials of Goldman Sachs and Standard Chartered will be focused on the ever-changing global financial situation, stressing the importance of an organic relationship between the manufacturing and financial industries.

Chey is the second generation leader of Korea’s top chaebol, gearing up for a transformation of his group into a more competitive one, taking advantage of the ongoing global financial crisis that is crimping Korea’s business sector.
