A group of South Korea arms procurement officials and defense business representatives will leave for Libya Monday to attend an international defense exhibition, the first of its kind in North Africa, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Sunday.

The delegation, led by DAPA Commissioner Yang Chi-kyu, will take part in the Libyan Defence, Security & Safety Exhibition at Mitiga International Airport in Tripoli to be held through Thursday, it said.

``The delegation plans to promote South Korea's indigenous weapons systems and other military equipment during the defense fair,'' a DAPA official said. ``The group will also meet with Libyan procurement officials to discuss ways of promoting bilateral cooperation.''

The discussion is also expected to help defense manufacturers make inroads into North African nations, potential arms importers from South Korea, the official added.

Delegates include DAPA officials in charge of arms exports and business in the African region and representatives from Hanwha, Doosan Infracore and Hyundai Rotem, he said.
