A stockbroker from an unidentified domestic securities company was found dead in a hotel room in an apparent suicide Friday, police said.
The 32-year-old worker, identified only as Ryu, was found to have hung himself in the hotel near his office in Gangnam.
Police found no suicide note but the deceased man's father testified that he had sent 7.5 million won to his son several days ago when he heard he was 15 million won in debt due to losses from investments in mutual funds. The exact amount of his losses and debts were unknown.
Ryu had been working as a broker at the brokerage since Aug. 2006.
Police said his family did not want an autopsy and tentatively concluded that he committed suicide.
His death comes as Seoul stocks continued to plunge amid the looming global recession.
