PCA Life Insurance, a leading British life insurer, said it organized ``PCA English Camp'' for underprivileged children as a part of its social contribution program.
Around 70 children from SOS Children's Village, a shelter for underprivileged children operating in Daegu, Suncheon, and Seoul, joined the camp held from Aug. 1 to 3.
The insurer has been operating the camp every year since 2006, aiming at helping underprivileged children, often marginalized from English education, learn English in a fun way. It also organized the ``PCA Olympic Games,'' a mini sports event for children ahead of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
PCA supporters, comprising a score of staff members and executives, dedicated their weekend to participate in the camp as volunteers.
The insurer, which has been marking two-digit growth each year since starting operation in Korea in 2002, has been running social contribution programs featuring ``English'' and ``education.'' It includes sponsoring ``Chevening Scholarship'' for Korean students and running a bus with English education facilities.
According to its Web site the Chevening Scholarship program is the ``UK government's flagship scholarship scheme, aimed at future leaders, high achievers, opinion formers and decision-makers.''
