An American woman gave birth to a baby boy aboard a Korean Air flight Thursday.

The woman, 39-year-old Jacel Brown, was eight months pregnant, when she went into premature labor aboard the flight bound for New York from Korea at 4:30 a.m. Thursday Korean local time, approximately 10 and a half hours after departure, according to a Korean Air official.

Appealing for any medical professionals aboard the flight, members of the cabin crew were able to locate a surgeon from Konkuk University Medical Center who agreed to offer assistance. Both doctor and flight attendants took care of Brown, helping to deliver a baby boy approximately 30 minutes later.

The plane was flying over Edmonton, Canada, at the time of birth. Her husband and about 290 passengers congratulated her on the birth.

After ensuring both mother and baby were ok, the flight continued onto its destination, arriving at JFK Airport approximately four hours later. Brown and the baby were met by an ambulance and medical staff who transported the pair to a local hospital.
