A candidate running for the upcoming parliamentary elections, dropped his bid Monday after one of his campaign workers was caught by police attempting to buy votes.

Kim Il-yoon, 69, running in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, on the ticket of a group of GNP deserters named the ``Pro-Park Geun-hye Alliance'' withdrew his candidacy.

``I sincerely apologize to all the people who supported him,'' said the alliance's spokesman on behalf of Kim.

Seo Chung-won, chief of the alliance, accepted his withdrawal.

According to police, the campaign worker, 70, was arrested Sunday on charges of giving money to two other campaign workers.
