Laxative Pill Uncovers Smuggled Drugs

By Park Si-soo
Staff Reporter

A Japanese national was caught attempting to smuggle marijuana blocks into Korea, by wrapping them in cellophane and swallowing them.

Incheon District Prosecutors' Office said Thursday that it had detained the 27-year-old on charges of drug trafficking.

Prosecutors said he was arrested while completing immigration procedures.

Hiding drugs inside body cavities has been reported before but this is the first time in Korea that a suspect was arrested after swallowing the drugs, they said.

The immigration office was notified of the smuggling from Thailand in advance, and arrested the suspect on arrival. He was made to take a laxative pill and excreted capsules containing 300 grams of hashish and 10 grams of ecstasy worth more than 15 million won on the local market.
