The number of foreign professors has more than doubled over the last seven years. According to the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, a total of 2,919 professors were working at colleges here in April this year.
This is 4.1 percent of the 70,957 of professors at colleges. The figure has seen an increase by 379 from last year and by 1,606 from 2000.
Among the foreigners, 2,319 are teaching students at universities, 93 work at Institutes and the rest are at vocational colleges. In accordance with the increase of foreign professorship, the number of international students has gone up.
There are 32,056 foreigners studying here, an increase of 9,432 from last year and an almost 10-fold increase from 2000. Among them, 72.1 percent are from China, 4.7 percent from Vietnam, 3.9 from Japan and 2.8 percent from Mongolia.
