The terminal for international lines at the Gwangju International Airport will be relocated to Muan Airport in South Jeolla Province.
The measure is part of efforts to set the stage for building a hub airport for the southwestern part of the country.
Minister of Construction and Transportation Lee Yong-seop said Thursday the ministry's decision to relocate the international terminal there remains unchanged. The airport is scheduled to open on Nov. 8.
``The relocation plan was made 10 years ago,'' the minister said. ``We will maintain the current system until the highway linking Gwangju and Muan is completed.''
The highway, which is under construction, is expected to open around June next year.
Noting that the ministry would complete the two highways connecting Gwangju and Muan and Mokpo and Gwangyang earlier than planned, Lee said, ``We are also considering extending the railroad for the Korea Train Express (KTX) to pass through Muan Airport.''
