Five hundred and 55 pianos were played simultaneously in Incheon, the most ever played at one time and place anywhere in the world.
Incheon city held the event at Incheon Samsan World Gymnasium Sunday to commemorate the port city's winning the bid for the 2014 Asian Games. The concert was sponsored by Young Chang and Kurzweil, the nation's largest piano manufacturer.
``We organized the `555 Fantastic Piano Festival' to congratulate the bidding team on winning the 2014 Asian Games and to wish for Incheon's development,'' officials from the city government and the piano maker said.
The number 555 symbolizes the five-ringed Olympic flag, they said.
At the center of the gymnastic stadium, two grand pianos were placed on a stage designed in the shape of ``taegeuk'', the yin-yang circle divided by a wavy line, which symbolizes perfection and harmony. The rest of the pianos and synthesizers were arranged in four sections.
Under the baton of Lee Sun-young, 555 music major students from 12 universities played the pianos simultaneously, from classical music to Korean pop.
The piano manufacturer filmed the concert and plans to submit the film to the Guinness World Record for the event to be approved as the world's largest indoor concert.
