Korea to Host Casino Meeting

Korea will host its first international conference on the subject of casinos next Tuesday.

The International Conference on Casino Development and Strategy will be held at the Millennium Seoul Hilton in central Seoul on July 10-11.

The meeting was organized by the Korea Casino Association; Kangwon Land, the operator of the nation's only casino for Koreans; Grand Korea Leisure, a subsidiary of the Korea Tourism Organization and the operator of the foreigners-only casino Seven Luck.

``Casinos are a major source of tourist revenue, drawing in foreign visitors, so we need to study the strategies of the casino business, its regulations and future direction for its development,'' Park Jung-sam, chairman of Grand Korea Leisure, said.

William Eadington, professor of the University of Nevada, Reno, will deliver a speech on the subject of ``Challenges for the Regulation of Casino Gaming in Asia: Lesson from the West,'' while Professor Lee Choong-ki at Kyung Hee University will give a presentation on ``Sustainability and Competitiveness in the Korean Casino Industry.''

Professors and casino experts from countries where casino businesses are expanding, including the United States, the Philippines, Macau, Singapore and New Zealand, will take part in the conference.
