The Constitutional Court will review the Roh Moo-hyun administration's policy to close most of the pressrooms at government offices.

The Lawyers for Citizens Tuesday filed a constitutional petition against the scheduled pressroom closure initiated by the presidential office, saying, ``The policy will infringe on basic right of people and the media.''

In a statement, the lawyers' association stressed that it cannot oversee the situation in which the administration is abusing its public power to undermine media freedom and people's right to know, which was secured by Constitution.

They said it was frustrated the Roh administration will not scrap the policy.

Aside from the lawyers, executives of the Munhwa Ilbo newspaper and a senior journalist participated in the petition.
