South and North Korean Officials Meet in Gaeseong Over Oil

South and North Korean negotiators discussed ways of shipment of diesel oil to the North at the Northern border town of Gaeseong Friday.

South Korea plans to supply 50,000 tons of fuel oil to the North in connection with the Feb. 13 agreement underlining the shutdown of nuclear reactors in return for supply of fuel oil and food as well as security guarantee of North Korean regime

They exchanged opinions in what port the oil willl be supplied and how much in each port, South Korean officials said.

"We have exchanged a wide range of opinion and reached some of the issues," said an official of the Unification Ministry, adding that the South would make efforts to iron out the unsettled problem through an additional negotiations Saturday.

The countries involved in the six-party talks on nuclear disarmament of the North earlier ageed to provide energy and other economic aid equivalent to 1 million tons of diesel oil in line with the North's initial implementation to disable the nuclear facilities in accordance with the Feb. 13 agreement reached at the six-party talks.

The six nations are South and North Korea, the United State, China, Russia and Japan. South Korea is to shoulder 50,000 tons of the total 1 million tons of diesel oil.

Han Chung-hee, deputy chief of North Korea's nuclear affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, led the 4-member South Korean delegation, while the five-menber North delegation was headed Han Myong-chul.
