English teachers gathered at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) to study better ways of teaching their students.

HUFS has hosted its third annual teaching contest for secondary school English teachers since May 24 and more than 100 English teachers across the nation applied for the competition.

Among them, HUFS selected 10 finalists and the selected teachers demonstrated their classes on Saturday in front of other teachers, students and parents that numbered about 200 at HUFS Seoul Campus.

Song Jung-sun of Hyowon High School in Suwon City won the grand prize and Kim Min-jung, Ganjaewul Middle School in Incheon, and Lee Soon-chul of Yeongheung High School in Mokpo City, got second awards.

``The main criteria for the judges were clear objective of the class, the ability to draw students’ participation and [teach] the appropriate level for students in the class,’’ said Cha Kyung-ae, chief judge and professor of the English education department at HUFS.
