The franchise started in 1999 with a video-only version and began releasing sequels for theaters in 2000, including “The Grudge: White Ghost” (2009), “The Grudge: Black Ghost” (2009) and “The Grudge: The Beginning of the End” (2014).
The movies, considered the scariest made in Asia, have sold the most tickets -- 1.87 million -- of all foreign horror movies that have opened in Korea.
Also known as “Ju-on,” a Japanese term that translates into “grudge,” the franchise depicts the ghosts of a woman and her son who haunt a house and whoever enters it.
