New `Culture Project’ brings Ke$ha to Korea

Hyundai Card announced its latest pop culture venture Tuesday, which will bring American pop singer Ke$ha here March 29.

The “Culture Project” will kick off next month with a focus on emerging stars, and will host a variety of event from concerts to musicals and art exhibitions.

It is different from the popular Super Concert X series — a line-up of legendary artists that have seen the likes of Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and Guns N’ Roses perform here — by highlighting the “leading,” “young and hot” and “inspirational,” according to a press release.

Ke$ha, 23, first came to light in 2009 after a cameo in Flo Rida’s “Right Round,” but grew to fame with her debut single “Tik Tok.”

She gained popularity locally for a demo cover she did of Girls’ Generation’s “Run Devil Run.”

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. at the Ax-Hall in Gwangjang-dong.

Tickets cost 110,000 won and will go on sale to Hyundai Card holders at noon on Feb. 18 at www.privia.hyundaicard.com.

Non-card holders can reserve tickets from noon on Feb. 21 at Interpark.

Uli Sigg to lecture at MOCA

Uli Sigg, one of the most influential contemporary Chinese art collectors, will give a lecture at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea (MOCA) in Gwacheon, Saturday at 2 p.m.

Sigg, a native of Switzerland, will talk about the rise of Chinese modern art ― which he in part catalyzed ― since he began collecting in the 1980s and of the 11 works he lent to the museum from his private stores for the ``Made in Popland’’ exhibition.

Sigg currently owns more than 2,000 pieces of contemporary art from the Asian giant from more than 350 artists.

Korean artists Chung Yeon-doo, Ham Kyung-ah, and contemporary Korean art collectors will also provide their views.

Admission is free but seats are limited to 100. For more information visit www.moca.go.kr or www.popland.moca.go.kr.

Radiohead to release 8th album Saturday

Radiohead will release its latest LP ``The King of Limbs’’ via digital download this Saturday (U.K. time), the group announced Monday.

A physical release will follow May 8, in what the band is calling a ``newspaper album,’’ comprising two 10-inch clear vinyl records of the 8-track LP, a CD version and cover artwork. Those who purchase the newspaper edition in advance will also receive the digital download on Saturday.

The album is the group’s first since the 2007 ``In Rainbows,’’ which was released online through a ``pay what you want’’ system. The distribution method for ``King’’ hopes to fight online leaks.

To download the album, visit www.thekingoflimbs.com (English) or www.thekingoflimbs.jp (Korean).
