By Chung Hyun-chae

The "2013 Style Icon Awards" (2013 SIA), a style and cultural festival hosted by CJ E&M, will be held from Oct. 22 through Oct. 24 in Cheongdam-dong and Sangam-dong, Seoul.

The sixth edition of SIA will shed light on eccentricity and creativity in such areas as media, culture, art, fashion, and lifestyle. It grants the name of "style icon" to those who think out of the box and thus change the trend of world culture.

"SIA is the only style icon awards in Korea and has played a key role in K-Culture's expansion overseas since 2008," said Han Sung-mi, general manager of CJ E&M's Style Business Division.

The style icon last year was Jang Dong-gun, who gained popularity for starring in the popular television drama "A Gentleman's Dignity." With his role in the drama, Jang is credited to having brought about a conceptual change among Korean men in their 40s in that they too can be attractive. .

The 2013 SIA, under the theme "Otherness," will select the 10 most influential icons. The 50 nominees are already listed on sia.interest.me, and anyone can vote. The final 10 winners will be decided by a compilation of votes ― 40 percent by survey, 30 percent by online votes and 30 percent of scores and an executive committee comprised of creative directors, stylists and photographers.

The ceremony for the winners is scheduled on Oct. 24, to be broadcast live from 7 p.m. through 11 p.m. It will be aired through domestic channels ― OnStyle, tvN, Mnet, XTM, Olive, StoryOn ― as well as global channels ―Mnet America and Channel M.

During the three-day event, the "SIA Style Film Festival," will open at CGV Cheongdam Cine City in southern Seoul. A fashion show paying homage to "style icons of the century," in collaboration with the Galleria mall in Apgujeong-dong southern Seoul.
