EXO's album sets up largest sales in 12 years
Rising K-pop boy band EXO's first album has recorded its largest sales in three months, selling 737,159 copies with "XOXO" (Kiss&Hug), according to SM Entertainment.
It is the third largest in record sales in Korea's record industry after Kim Kun-mo with 1.39 million copies and Cho Sung-mo with 960,000 copies in 2001.
"The record sales are the first of its kind since 2005 when illegal downloads dealt the hardest blow to the nation's record industry along with the advent of the online music market," the company said.
The album garnered attention as its presale orders surpassed more than 300,000 copies.
The high sales of the album is attributed to their global popularity, as the 12-member group has been divided into two units _ EXO-K and EXO-M, which recorded the album in Korean and Chinese, respectively.
Also, the band's newest song "Growl" has topped major music charts.
