Question 1. VERBAL (Critical Reasoning)

Many people suffer an allergic reaction to certain sulfites, including those that are commonly added to wine as preservatives. However, since there are several wine makers who add sulfites to none of the wines they produce, people who would like to drink wine but are allergic to sulfites can drink wines produced by these wine makers without risking an allergic reaction to sulfites.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

A. These wine makers have been able to duplicate the preservative effect produced by adding sulfites by means that do not involve adding any potentially allergenic substances to their wine.

B. Not all forms of sulfites are equally likely to produce the allergic reactions.

C. Wine is the only beverage to which sulfites are commonly added.

D. Apart from sulfites, there are no substances commonly present in wine that give rise to an allergic reaction.

E. Sulfites are not naturally present in the wines produced by these wine makers in amounts large enough to produce an allergic reaction in someone who drinks these wines.

Question 2. VERBAL (Sentence Correction)

Direction: Correct the underlined part.

The golden crab of the Gulf of Mexico has been fished commercially in great numbers, primarily

on account of living

at great depths — 2,500 to 3,000 feet down.

A. on account of living

B. on account of their living

C. because it lives

D. because of living

E. because they live

Question 3. MATH (Problem Solving)

When a positive integer n is divided by q, the quotient is 5 and the remainder is 9. When the positive integer is divided by 5, what is the remainder?

A. 0 B. 1 C. 2 D. 3 E. 4

Question 4. MATH (Data Sufficiency)

Directions: In this problem, a question is followed by two statements containing certain data. You are to determine whether the data provided by the statements are sufficient to answer the question. Choose the correct answer based upon the statement's data and your knowledge of mathematics.

If x, y and z are positive numbers, is x

1) x<2z

2) 4x<2z

A. statement 1 alone is sufficient, but statement 2 alone is not sufficient to answer the question

B. statement 2 alone is sufficient, but statement 1 alone is not sufficient to answer the question

C. both statements taken together are sufficient to answer the question, but neither statement alone is sufficient

D. each statement alone is sufficient

E. statements 1 and 2 together are not sufficient, and additional data is needed to answer the question

Answer to Q1

The author argues that since some wine makers are not adding sulfites in making wines, people who are allergic to sulfites can drink wines produced by these wine makers without worrying about their allergic reaction. The author is saying that wines produced by these wine makers are sulfite free. In other words, the author is making an assumption that the only way wines can contain sulfites is when sulfites are added by wine makers.

Thus, the correct answer is (E) which says that sulfites are not naturally present in the wines produced by these wine makers.

Answer to Q2

Main issue: clause & phrase / pronoun

Because the “the golden crab” is a singular noun, it can’t be the referent of “they” or “their.” And a flawless clause is preferable to a phrase in terms of showing effectively the intended tense and the agent of a verbal phrase. The answer is C.

Answer to Q3

When n=pq+r (n, p, q, and r are positive integers), 0≤r

Answer to Q4

Condition 1): x=1, z=1, y=1 no, x=1, y=2,z=5 yes, NOT sufficient,

Condition 2): Because x, y and z are positive, 2x<4x<2z
