The annual event, which took place in Barcelona from Feb. 27 to March 1, featured the newest handsets from most of the global major players.

Best smartphone - Samsung Galaxy S II

Its sleek design and superior multimedia capabilities led it to become the most awarded smartphone in 2011, judges said. Samsung snatched the award from Apple with its iPhone 4 winning last year. The South Korean tech giant also won Device Manufacturer of the Year.

Best mobile tablet – Apple iPad 2

If the iPhone set the standards for smartphones, the iPads 1 and 2 raised the bar for tablets, judges said. "A unanimous choice for a tablet that has defined the market and dominated sales."
Apple has created buzz despite not attending the show.

Best new mobile handset, device or tablet – Nokia Pureview

Nokia introduced Nokia 808 Pureview, a smartphone with a whopping 41-megapixel camera system. This has put Nokia ahead in the current race as there are hardly any camera phones that can capture better quality images.
