Strategy models sold exclusively overseas are leading global sales for Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors, amid declining demand and domestic sales.

According to sources Monday, Hyundai Motor's ix25 and Creta, and Kia Motors' KX3 small-size sports utility vehicle (SUV) are leading the two companies' performance with global sales of 250,944 cars in the January to October period this year, a 70.4 percent surge compared to last year's 147,252.

Hyundai Motor sold 114,831 Creta SUVs in India during the period, up by 235 percent year-on-year.

Introduced in India last July, the Creta SUV immediately topped the nation's small-size SUV market in sales, and was also named "car of the year" last year.

Following its huge popularity in India, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America, Hyundai Motor introduced the Creta SUV to Russia in August.

A total of 5,058 were sold in the first two month to become the fourth-best-selling car in Russia. In October it ranked fifth in monthly sales at 4,576.

Hyundai Motor's ix25 and Kia Motors' KX3 in China, were also very well-received by consumers.

First unveiled during the 2014 Beijing International Motor Show, 84,152 ix25 SUVs were sold in the January to October period this year, a 4.8 percent increase year-on-year.

Kia Motors' KX3 also marked its successful landing in the Chinese market with sales of 47,432 last year after it was introduced in March. Kia sold 51,961 KX3s in the January to October period this year, a 58.6 percent surge year-on-year.

"The small-size SUV market is expected to expand in emerging economies," said a Hyundai Motor official. "We will introduce the Creta SUV to Brazil next year."
