Companies designated as the good government suppliers won around $4 million in export deals in Southeast Asia.
The Public Procurement Service said that it sent a "market pioneering team," comprised of Korean small and medium-sized enterprises and the government officials, to Vietnam and the Philippines from June 16-20.
The SMEs were designated as excellent suppliers for the government by the Public Procurement Service.
"The government procures near 80 percent of goods from SMEs which have excellent products but have problems promoting themselves," said a spokesperson for the government agency.
"As they come to know that these companies supply their goods to the Korean government and are registered as excellent suppliers, the foreign buyers can trust them," he added.
The companies had a meeting with local buyers, and a special vehicle company and a water purifier company immediately won $4 million in export deals. An LED manufacturer also signed an MOU with a Vietnamese company.
The Public Procurement Service has been supporting the government suppliers in their advancement into the overseas market, helping them participate in overseas expos and organizing the "market pioneering team." The companies won some deals in Russia last year as well.
The companies also signed an MOU with the Vietnam Association of Construction Contractors, a stepping stone for their advancement into Vietnam.
