Goodgame Studios will push to expand its presence in Korea this year as a rapidly-growing international game developer, the Seoul branch of the Hamburg-based company said Wednesday.

To this end, the German game manufacturer will focus on sales of its two flagship products _ Goodgame Empire and Empire: Four Kingdoms, the company said.

The online and mobile game company opened its office in Seoul and Tokyo in September last year to capitalize on the rapid growth of the Asia market.

“Asia obviously is the important region in the firms’ global strategy,” said a Goodgame Studios Korea spokesman.

The German company first attracted Korean game lovers with Goodgame Empire in November 2012.

The online game was developed for its players to compete against other each other to build more castles and increase the borderlines to build an empire.

The game was so popular in Europe that it won the “European Games Award” in 2012, Goodgame Studios Korea said.

Empire: Four Kingdoms, is a smartphone game, which was introduced in January this year. Its players embark on a mission to build fortresses and increase their armies in order to protect four kingdoms.

The English-language version of the game is available on both Android and iOS phones. However, its Korean-language version is only available on Android phones.

Goodgame Studios was founded in 2009 by its CEO Kai Wawrzinek and Chief Operating Officer Christian Wawrzinek. It has over 650 employees worldwide and has more than 184 million registered users.

The company has won numerous awards, including Entrepreneur of the Year in 2011 given by Ernst and Young, a U.S-based accounting firm.
