The number of people using Kakao Talk has exceeded 70 million and their average time spent on the mobile messenger service reached 43 minutes per day, data showed Sunday.

Kakao Talk, launched in March 2010, is a free messenger application that runs on the Android and iOS operating systems. It's available in 13 different languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese and Portuguese.

According to data offered through its blog run by Kakao Corp., the users of the mobile messenger service exceeded the 70 million mark in the first week of this month. The milestone was reached three months after the figure topped 60 million.

Their time spent on Kakao Talk every week was 302 minutes, meaning they use the mobile messenger service for about 43 minutes a day, the data showed.

The average number of daily visits to Kakao Talk came to about 27.5 million, which is much higher than the 8 million tallied in April last year. The maximum number of messages sent through the service was 4.2 billion, according to the data. (Yonhap)
