Samsung, LG among world's 100 global innovators

A total of seven South Korean organizations including Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., were named as some of the world's top 100 global innovators, a study showed Tuesday.

Those who made it onto the list include three local companies - Samsung, LG and LS Industrial Systems Co. - as well as four research institutes and schools such as the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology and the Korea Electronics Technology Institute, according to the annual study by Thomson Reuters.

The accolade was given to organizations that demonstrated innovation by measuring factors such as the volume and influence of their patents.

Among the top 100 innovators were key players in the technology sector such as Apple Inc., Google Inc. and Canon Inc.

By country, the United States topped the list with 47 organizations, followed by Japan with 25 organizations and France with 13 institutions, according to the study. (Yonhap)
