E-mart opened a facility for agricultural and marine products called “Fresh Center” in Icheon, Gyeonggi province, Friday. The market is attracting much attention because it promises to offer items priced 20 to 30 percent lower than other retail stores by reducing distribution costs. It remains to be seen whether it will become a genuine “discount” chain or if the advertised price discounts end up being empty promises.
