POSCO unit starts work on power plant in Indonesia

Listen

POSCO Energy Co., an affiliate of Korea's leading steelmaker POSCO, said Tuesday that it began work on the construction of a fuel cell power plant in Indonesia.

The 300-kilowatt fuel cell power plant at Ancol Dreamland resort, Pademangan District, North Jakarta, will supply electricity to the resort, according to POSCO Energy.

The construction of the power plant will be completed by February next year, it said.

Fuel cells generate electricity by using an electrochemical process that does not involve combustion, thus it eliminates almost all pollutants such as nitrogen oxide and sulfur oxide.

POSCO Energy started its fuel cell-related business in 2007, and operates 20 fuel cell power plants in Korea. (Yonhap)
