SAN FRANCISCO (Yonhap) -- Emboldened by a triumph in the first round of a U.S. patent suit against Samsung, Apple made a formal request Monday to a U.S. federal judge to ban the sales of eight products of the South Korean firm.

Those are Galaxy S 4G, Galaxy S2 AT&T, Galaxy S2, Galaxy S2 T-Mobile, Galaxy S2 Epic 4G, Galaxy S Showcase, Droid Charge and Galaxy Prevail, according to a list submitted to the Northern District Court of California.

A jury in the court delivered a verdict last week that Samsung Electronics Co. illegally copied some designs and features of Apple Inc.'s iPhone and iPad

The jury said Samsung should pay $1 billion in damages to the Silicon Valley firm.

Samsung described the verdict as a "loss for American consumers" and it has demanded a judge reverse the verdict.

Lucy Koh, a judge at the court in charge of the suit between the world's leading phone and computer makers, is scheduled to announce her ruling on Sept. 20.

If Koh accepts the jury's decision, Samsung plans to file an appeal.

Meanwhile, Samsung asked Koh to lift a ban on the sales of Galaxy 10.1 tablet computer.

The jury concluded the Samsung model did not infringe on Apple's patent.

Samsung's attorney said given the jury's verdict, there is no legal ground to maintain the injunction.

In June, Koh ordered a temporary ban on the sales of Galaxy 10.1 in the U.S. market.
