Korea to send 245 athletes to London Olympics

Korea will send 245 athletes in 22 sports to the upcoming London Olympics, the nation's top sports body said Tuesday.

According to the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC), Korea will be represented in 22 of 26 sports at the Summer Games. It has failed to qualify for basketball, tennis, equestrian and canoe. In addition to the athletes, the delegation will also include 129 officials, the KOC said.

The number of athletes is the smallest for a Summer Olympics since the 1984 Los Angeles Games, when Korea had 210 competitors.

Korea is aiming to win at least 10 gold medals and finish inside the top 10 in the medal standings. It has ranked among the top 10 in five of the past six Summer Olympics.

The London Games will go on from July 27 to Aug. 12. (Yonhap)
