Samsung SDI Co., the world's top maker of plasma display panels (PDP), said Friday its net profit jumped 22 percent on-year in the second quarter, fueled by booming demand for mobile devices.
Net profit came to 105.3 billion won ($92.4 million) in the April-June period, compared with a profit of 86.5 billion won in the previous year, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Sales climbed 10 percent on-year to 1.5 trillion won in the second quarter, while operating profit slipped 6 percent to 84 billion won over the cited period.
The stronger bottom line came as growing demand for smartphones and tablet PCs drove up orders for batteries, the company said.
PDP shipments, meanwhile, reached 1.6 million units, securing the company's market dominance, it added. (Yonhap)
