SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won continues in his commitment to deal with various problems plaguing society.
SK Group will cooperate with KAIST to offer a management of business administration (MBA) course on social enterprises.
Chey and KAIST President Seo Nam-pyo signed a memorandum of understanding to open the unique course in February.
``Such issues as youth unemployment have become serious social problems but the conventional ways of dealing with them involving private companies have shown limitations,’’ Chey said.
``We can find an alternative solution in the form of social enterprises, which will bring youngsters’ spirit of taking on challenges as shown over the venture boom in the past.’’
He promised that the Seoul-based group will keep supporting graduates of the MBA course so that they can create a healthy environment for social enterprise.
The course will enroll 25 students next year with the number expected to increase in the following years.
Chey stressed the significance of the same initiative during the Social Enterprise Forum 2012 in Seoul late last month and the 2012 Shanghai Forum last week.
``To solve social problems, a proactive ecosystem must be created that can enable voluntary participation, not at the level of corporate social responsibility, but by the third sector such as social enterprise so that the results can be sustained and to also increase efficiency,’’ he said at the Seoul forum.
