Dongyang Engineering & Construction Corp., a local builder and express bus service provider, said Thursday it will build two wind farms in a renewable energy complex in southwestern Korea.

The builder said it will construct one wind farm onshore and another offshore that have a combined generating capacity of 54 megawatts at the complex located 410 kilometers south of Seoul by January 2014.

Dongyang will invest 150 billion won ($131.71 million) in the wind farms, which will annually generate 108,000 megawatt-hours of electricity, enough to be used by 30,000 households, according to the company.

If completed, the wind farms will help reduce some 50,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, Dongyang officials said.

Dongyang currently operates a 24-megawatt solar power facility in the complex. Another wind power plant with a generation capacity of 9 megawatts is under construction for completion in July.

The completion of the wind farms will boost the complex's power generation capacity to 87 megawatts, the largest in Asia, Dongyang said. (Yonhap)
