LG Electronics Inc., the world's third-largest handset maker, said Wednesday global sales of its smartphones running on long-term evolution (LTE) networks topped the 1 million mark.
The company said its LTE smartphones, the Optimus LTE, posted worldwide sales exceeding the landmark figure as of late last week. The total, which includes sales tallied in the large U.S. market, was reached in a little over three months after the phone started reaching consumers in October.
Of all the LTE phones sold, domestic sales exceeded 600,000 handsets, it added.
LG has been betting on the high-speed fourth-generation (4G) wireless market in a bid to turnaround its money-losing handset business. LG's mobile business logged a six straight quarterly loss through the third quarter. (Yonhap)
