Gyeongju, North Gyeongsan Province will host the 20th World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) World Taekwondo Championships in 2011.
The world taekwondo governing body announced Sunday (KST) that the city won the right to hold the biennial event at a WTF Council meeting in Cairo, Egypt.
The city is 370 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
It is the second time for Korea, the birthplace of the sport, to host the championships following the 2001 event on Jeju Island.
