The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority (BJFEZA) recently organized a technical tour for foreign diplomats and staff of chambers of commerce in Korea to showcase its industrial infrastructure.
The main participants were diplomats from the Canadian, Italian, Israeli and Austrian embassies and staff of the Korean-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Swiss and New Zealand chambers of commerce.
The investment seminar and tour included a boat tour of the Geo-GA fixed link bridge, connecting Busan and Geoje Island, renowned for the world's deepest and Korea's first immersed tunnel.
The group visited Renault-Samsung Motors which has increased sales by four times since opening in 2000 followed by a visit to Hanjin New Port Terminal, operating four out of 13 berths in the Northern Container Terminal.
The BJFEZ Authority is reaching out to embassies and foreign chambers of commerce to further promote the awareness of the zone to the global business community.
Meanwhile, Kim Moon-hee, the commissioner of the BJFEZ Authority, and Robert J. Birgeneau, the chancellor of the University of California at Berkeley, last week entered into an agreement jointly moving into shipbuilding and offshore R&D projects.
Under a memorandum of understanding, Pusan National University and UC at Berkeley will conduct the joint operation of educational and research institutions, exchange of scientific and technical knowledge and materials and joint research institutions.
