LS Cable, the nation's top power cable manufacturer, plans to supply its wireless solution to an Iraqi company, Sinatel.

The announcement came Thursday after the South Korean company was set to introduce wireless-fidelity, or Wi-Fi, connection with coverage more than 10 times greater than previous high-speed wireless Internet technology.

Dubbed "LS Wi-Fi Solution," the new equipment and technology used a military technique called beam forming to extend the coverage of the wireless up to 2 kilometers, from the previous 200-meter maximum coverage, according to the company.

Wi-Fi, a mainstream standard for high-speed wireless Internet connection, enables users to access the Internet without a cable from laptop computers or mobile phones when they are near a base station, known as "hotspots."

LS Cable, an affiliate of LS Group that parted from South Korean conglomerate LG Group, expected the wireless technology would slash installment costs for telecommunication service providers as the LS Wi-Fi Solution required fewer hubs for sharing wireless connections.

"In place of 10 access points, LS Wi-Fi Solution needs only one," said Kim Dong-ki, an LS cable executive.

"It would also allow telecommunication companies to service Internet, phone, and IPTV without the need for cables."

LS Wi-Fi Solution facilitates Internet connections of up to 100 mega bps and allows connection to the Internet in an automotive moving as fast as 80 kilometers per hour, he added.

In July, the company struck a $200-million contract with Sinatel to supply and install a communication network in Iraq.

Under the latest contract, LS Cable will install a Quadruple Play Service (QPS) system by June 2012, enabling 200,000 cable television subscribers in Salahuddin and Karbala to use four different services including Internet, digital broadcasting service, Internet phone and mobile phone.

The QPS system embraces all the broadcasting and communication solutions that LS Cable developed and nurtured as its new growth engine from digital broadcasting services, from IPTV, LS-HFC to Wi-Fi.
