Daewoo International, one of the country’s leading trading companies, said Thursday that it has opened a center to help foreign workers adjust here at a faster pace.
The center, dubbed ``Migrants’ Helpcall,’’ provides specialized interpretation services in 10 languages including Chinese, Vietnamese and English for foreign migrants who have been facing hardships in workplaces because of language barriers.
The center, located in the industrial city of Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, will also offer legal, medical and welfare services for the needy with the support from experts from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday.
``The center, the first if its kind, aims to increase the quality of life for foreign workers and migrants in South Korea,’’ Daewoo International Chief Executive Kang Young-won said in an opening ceremony, adding that the compound will lessen the burden of language barriers between foreign workers and managers.
According to government data, some 70,000 foreign workers, mainly from Southeast Asia, now reside in the western city.
``Anyone who wants to use the services, please call 1644-7111 without provincial codes,’’ a Daewoo official said.
