Toyota Korea said Wednesday that it has introduced its LS600hL hybrid sedan, the top of the range model in its Lexus brand, which it says boasts an excellent performance in driving while being environmentally sound, to the South Korean market.

The LS600hL is the world’s first V8 hybrid sedan that realizes a higher level of car safety with several new components and systems including a five-liter V8 engine, full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) and a high-output electric motor.

``I’m pleased to introduce the LS600hL to our customers here,’’ Toyota President Taizo Chigira said. ``I hope that this flagship sedan of Lexus will be understood and loved more by South Korean customers who have a high level of environmental awareness.’’

The LS600hL will be distributed through the Japanese carmaker’s nine official dealers here across the nation for 197 million won ($215,000) with surtax included, according to Toyota Korea.

Lexus, the luxury car division of the Japanese automaker, has been one of the best-selling foreign cars in the South Korean market, which is dominated by domestic manufacturers including Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group.
