The fourth Wednesday of April, which falls on April 25 this year, is Administrative Professionals’ Day, or Secretaries’ Day, while the whole week is Secretaries’ Week.

It is an unofficial celebration day observed in many countries to recognize the work of secretaries, assistants and other administrative support professionals. In 2000, the International Association of Administrative Professionals named the day and the fourth week “Administrative Professionals’ Week (Day).”

On the day or in the week, CEOs or other levels of bosses write thank-you cards for their secretaries or junior staff, treat them to a meal or give them flowers or other gifts.

In line with the celebration, some hotels are presenting various promotions where secretaries can be treated as CEOs for a day.

At the Lotte Hotel Seoul, restaurants will offer special courses with which bosses will be able to treat their staff to fine dining at reasonable prices along with special gifts.

From April 23 to 27, the Korean restaurant Mugunghwa, Japanese Momoyama and Chinese Toh Lim will serve their signature course menus at 80,000 won for lunch and 100,000 won for dinner. At the Italian restaurant Peninsula, lunch will be available for 60,000 won and dinner, for 99,000 won.

Guests having the special menus will be given a gift voucher for the Lipstick Flower Collection by Kevyn Aucoin (worth 43,000 won), a famous American makeup brand, and a voucher for earrings by Tirr Lirr (worth 20,000 won). The limited presents are offered only to ladies. For more information, call 02-771-1000.

The Marriott Executive Apartments Seoul, located in Yeouido, will also present a special menu on April 25.

Considering almost all secretaries at firms in the financial district are women, the hotel’s Park Cafe has prepared a low-calorie, seasonal menu for lady guests. A garden salad decorated with flowers will be served as starter, followed by lasagna with seafood and meat balls as a main dish; and lime sherbet and apple pie as dessert.

The course menu will be priced at 30,000 won. For more information, call 02-2090-8050.

At the Courtyard Marriott Seoul Times Square, Momo Cafe presents a menu that can be shared by a group of four people or more.

The foods include vegetable pizza, caprese, potato chips and dip, seafood pasta, and a dessert plate. Guests can pick a bottle of wine from a list of five.

The special offer is available for a group of at least four members, costing 30,000 won per person. For more information, call 02-2638-3081.

The Novotel Ambassador Gangnam presents culture classes for secretaries who often make reservations for the hotel’s rooms or restaurants for their bosses.

The classes are comprised of four programs. The first one was held on March 22 when the participants learned how to make a bracelet using Swarovski crystals. Until the end of May, other programs will follow such as gift wrapping and tips for financial affairs.

The hotel holds events for secretaries at least once a year to form a network of administrative assistants and thus to provide a better service to them as well as their bosses.

For more information, call 02-567-1101.

For secretaries making reservations at the Millennium Seoul Hilton for their bosses, everyday is Administrative Professionals’ Day, as the hotel operates a membership program for them.

Named the “Top Key Club,” membership is open to those making room reservations for corporations or groups, mainly secretaries.

The membership has two types ― Pink and Gold ― according to reservation frequency. The basic benefits include: a 25 percent discount at the buffet restaurant Orangerie for Wednesday lunch; a 10 percent discount at all restaurants and bars; cake on birthdays; and two glasses of wine if the member visits a restaurant or a bar on a wedding anniversary.

The members will get one point per reservation, and those who had more than 100 points the previous year can have a free accommodation voucher that can be used this year. Those having 300 points get membership of the hotel’s fitness center.

Other various programs offered to Top Key Club members are makeup classes, movie previews and Christmas or year-end parties. For more information, call 02-317-3332.
