Woo named new head of KOCIS

Woo Jin-young, 53, has been appointed as the new director of Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced last week.

Woo, a former head of the National Library of Korea, has served various positions in the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. He was previously stationed in the United States as the director of the Korean Cultural Center in New York.

He succeeds Seo Kang-soo.

KOCIS was launched in 1971 to internationally promote Korean culture and uplift the national image. Formerly called the Overseas Information Center, it operates in 36 locations, including cultural centers, in 31 countries.
