Local aeronautics experts including the country’s first astronaut Yi So-yeon, will attend a special preview of a 3D space movie in Seoul, Friday.

The special screening at Wangsimni CGV’s IMAX Theater has also invited university astronomy student organizations around the country.

“Hubble 3D” chronicles the efforts of seven astronauts aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, which moves at an unnerving speed of 2,800 kilometers per second. Shot on an IMAX 3D camera and co-produced by NASA and Warner Bros., the film has been hailed by the press as not only depositing viewers “in outer space, but for the first time ever making the old Star Trek gimmick of ‘warp speed’ a reality” (The Hollywood Reporter).

Renowned professor Charles Ahn provides narration for the local version of the film, replacing Leonardo DiCaprio. “I hope ‘Hubble 3D’ will inspire students to become interested in space and science,” said Ahn.

The film will open May 5 across CGV IMAX Theaters in Yongsan and Wangsimni, Seoul; Ilsan and Incheon, Gyeonggi Province; as well as Gwangju, Daegu, Daejeon and Seomyeon, Busan.
